Hi all,
Every year I do this activity in Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grade to start our time together for the year. “Mortimer” by Robert Munsch is a great book, and almost a no-fail way to get instruments into the the little ones’ hands right away. They are always entranced by the story and it sets up the expectations of playing only when they’re “supposed” to. The activity is extended in 2nd grade to choosing a more varied assortment of instruments, since they already know it so well by that point.
You can see my first class of kindergartners this year, doing this activity, at https://youtu.be/16CBuAYVioI
I would love to hear about your no-fail first day activities, or see clips of these in action.
Happy New School Year to you all!
Thank you so much for this share! I love that book and lesson!
