WMEA Recognition Awards

The Wyoming Music Educators Association Awards Program supports WMEA’s effort to recognize the outstanding achievements of peers and affiliates as well as those outside the music education profession. WMEA honors distinguished colleagues and increases the visibility of supportive associates, who have made significant contributions to music education in Wyoming. 

 

Award nominations are presented by the District Presidents to the WMEA Executive Board. Nominations are taken during the district meetings at the WMEA State Music Conference.

 

Awards  include:

Outstanding Music Educator of the Year

The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor a WMEA member for excellence in music education. The award is made to individuals who have served their students, schools and communities in an exemplary way. Any WMEA member who is currently teaching and has not previously received the award is eligible. Nominees must have taught seven years and be a current music educator from any level in a school, college or university in Wyoming.

 

Outstanding Young Music Educator

The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor a WMEA member for distinction in music education. The award is made to young teachers who have made an exemplary contribution to the music experience of their students. Any WMEA member who is currently teaching and has not previously received the award is eligible. Nominees must have taught six years or less and be a current music educator from any level in a school, college or university in Wyoming.

 

Distinguished Service Award

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding service to music education in Wyoming by persons or organizations that are not professional music educators but who have a direct impact on music education and/or provide support services to the music education community. Any person who meets the purpose and is not a professional music educator or any organization composed of persons who are not music educators is eligible. This award is intended to recognize and salute individuals or groups who provide direct contributions to music education through service or have demonstrated ongoing support for music education.

 

Give-a-Note Award

The Give-a-Note Award honors those who improve and expand music education for all by effecting changes in the general public’s perception of its importance. This honor is given to a person or group who increases public awareness and promotes public support for music education. Their efforts allow music education to reach out beyond the parameters of the teaching profession to the world in which American’s learn about and make music. Any person who meets the purpose and is not a professional music educator or any organization composed of persons who are not professional music educators is eligible. The award will be made to an individual, organization or corporation that has contributed in an extraordinary manner to the support and promotion of music education in the State of Wyoming.
