Thank you all for your responses regarding what grade each district begins band instruction.
The vast majority of responses indicated 5th or 6th grade, with one district beginning in 4th, and nobody beginning in 7th (although Star Valley used to begin in the 7th grade before moving to 6th and then 5th).
The question came up due to a discussion in an administrator’s meeting here in Rock Springs. Apparently there was a thought of eliminating our existing 6th grade band program and shifting beginning band to the 7th grade level. My goal was to gather as much information as possible before discussing the matter with our district administrators.
