As we begin preparation for holiday programs in our schools I’m sure we all run in to a similar issue. What can I have my students do, who don’t celebrate, that is still meaningful. I’m looking for suggestions for alternate activities for students who don’t celebrate holidays to do while the class is preparing for the program.
I uploaded a bunch of books with cds onto an ipod. I have students choose one of the books and listen to the ipod with headphones. That way they are still doing a music-related activity and can’t hear the holiday activity.
My school also has ipads with the app Garageband. I give students headphones and they explore Garageband during the holiday activity.
I like to use the Spotlight series in my classroom for this purpose. They can put on headphones and listen to the songs and follow along in a student book. iPad note reading games are also useful for older kids!
